Day work is how most crew get their first break. Learn how to find it, what to expect, and how to turn it into a permanent position.
What is Day Work?
Day work is temporary, paid work on yachts — typically washing, cleaning, polishing, or helping with projects. It pays €100-150/day and is the traditional way to get your foot in the door.
How to Find Day Work
Walk the docks between 8-9am with CVs in hand. Approach yachts professionally and ask if they need any help. Check crew agency boards and apps like Dockwalk.
What to Wear
Navy or white polo shirt, khaki shorts or trousers, boat shoes (white sole), and sunglasses. Look smart and ready to work.
What to Bring
- Multiple copies of your CV
- Sunscreen
- Water bottle
- Work gloves (optional)
Turning Day Work into a Job
Show up early, work hard, be positive, and never say no to a task. If the crew likes you, they may offer you a permanent position or recommend you elsewhere. Many captains hire from their day workers.
