The Deck Department
Deckhands handle all exterior operations: mooring, anchoring, tender driving, water sports, and yacht maintenance. It's physical work that suits outdoorsy, hands-on personalities. Career progression: Deckhand → Lead Deckhand → Bosun → First Officer → Captain.
The Interior Department
Stewardesses (and stewards) manage guest service, housekeeping, laundry, and table service. Hospitality experience is highly valued. Career progression: Junior Stewardess → Stewardess → 2nd Stewardess → Chief Stewardess → Purser.
The Engineering Department
Engineers maintain all mechanical and electrical systems. Prior experience or qualifications in marine engineering, electrical work, or HVAC is typically required. Career progression: Junior Engineer → 2nd Engineer → Chief Engineer.
The Galley (Chef)
Yacht chefs prepare all crew and guest meals. Culinary training is essential, and the role demands creativity under pressure. Small crews may have a sole chef; larger yachts have a brigade.
